The MoonWalk Edinburgh 2008 · 14 June 2008 ·
UPDATE - FULL MOON COMPLETED !!
Highlights - City bathed in pink lights, esp Edinburgh castle; the spirit of 11000 women & 1000 men (in decorated bras) holding hands & remembering the reason we were about to undertake this challenge; no rain; "Well Done" cheers from supporters along the route; beach sunrise on the NSea; relief and elation crossing the finish line
Lowlights - half naked in 45 deg weather w/ major windchill; last 4 miles; injured Mwalkers; premature Ipod death; complete body/foot fatigue & exhaustion
Moonwalk Edinburgh raises support and awareness of breast cancer as highlighted with 12,000 (mostly) women taking to the streets of Edinburgh at midnight on Jun 14/15 in their (highly decorated) bras to begin a 26.2 mile trek around the city.
I wanted to participate and joined the Shell-Shockers team for 3 primary reasons:
* in memory of my mother who died in Sept of cancer and father who previously passed due to cancer
* in honor of all breast cancer survivors, particularly my Aunt Belle and dear friend Kay
* to take advantage of this incredible opportunity while I’m living here in Scotland and meeting a personal goal
Thank you so much for your support. I hope that through the collective efforts we will be able to honor more survivors and see fewer in memoriums as we walk our way to ultimately walking out cancer.
Bette
