Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On August 14th 2018, Barry passed away suddenly but peacefully, surrounded by his family.  For those that didn't have the pleasure of meeting him, Barry was full of life and loved his family and friends above all else.  He was the kindest and most loyal man that anyone could hope to meet.

In 1983, Barry was diagnosed with Polycystic Kidney Disease and was monitored by the St Helier Renal Unit from then until 1997 when his kidney function had deteriorated to the point of requiring dialysis.  From 1997 to 2000, he attended dialysis three times weekly at St Helier but continued to work as much as possible.

In 2000, he and Christine were summoned back from holiday as a kidney had become available.  He had a transplant that day which was totally successful and from then on, he never looked back and he really didn't!  He was able to enjoy life again in all its forms.

None of this would have been possible without the wonderful staff and services provided by the Renal Unit at St Helier.  It's also worth noting that his death was in no way linked to his renal history.

Barry was not a lover of floral tributes.  If you would like to give something in his memory, then he would have been far happier knowing that others would benefit from a donation to the hospital that gave him his life back rather than flowers.
