I daresay the convention is to write something profound here. I certainly won't attempt to do that. The bottom line is simply that we are riding from John O'Groats to Lands End beginning on 19 August 2012. Should take us about two weeks, we think. We've never done this kind of distance before, are travelling independently (i.e. no support team) and plan to camp all the way, so this will be quite a green trip (in every sense, I suppose) and we'll each be laden with hefty panniers.

Doing a charity bike ride sounds a bit grand; actually the truth is that deciding to put up a justgiving page was a bit of an afterthought, with our main aim simply being to do something we thought would be fun (ha!) and interesting over the summer. Even so, if toiling (in lycra) on a bike that weighs a ton through 1000 miles of hills, torrential rain (it's going to, of course it is) and plagues of midges isn't challenging enough, we also have to tolerate each other's socks and snoring in a stuffy tent for fourteen nights. We feel that that's perhaps worth a bob or two for a good cause. Since we're paying for everything ourselves, all of the money donated will go directly to Cancer Research.

Please give whatever you are comfortable giving. We're not hard-core fund raisers and will be pleased with everything we get.
