The Beaune Challenge · 27 September 2012 to 29 September 2012 ·
Once again we will be riding in the Challenge Adventure Charities team ride 2012. Following on closely from the success of Team GB in the cycling events in the Olympics and Wiggo’s win of the Tour de France this year, we will be off across the Channel to join the Beaune Challenge to ride in relay over 500 miles from Caen to Beaune in three days. As always the challenge is in the number of miles we have to complete each day – starting early and often in the dark!
On 27 September we start at Pegasus Bridge and ride through the undulating Normandy countryside before descending to the Loire valley and Orleans, where Joan of Arc famously liberated the city from the Plantagenets during the Hundred Years’ War. Our first night is on the edge of the Sologne.
On Day 2, we ride south, tracking the Loire into the Auvergne and spend our second night in Vichy, originally a Roman spa town and more recently the seat of the French State in 1940 under Marshal Petain.
Our final etape on Saturday 29 September takes us through the Beaujolais hills and into the vineyards of Burgundy to our destination of Beaune.
This year 50% of the money we raise will go to the Breast Care Unit at the Portsmouth Hospital (Charity # 1047986) with the other 50% being split between the 2 chosen charities of CAC – Cancer Research UK & the British Heart Foundation. We meet all our own costs, therefore all your generous donations will go directly to these deserving causes.
Thank you
