Tushinde Children's Trust supports vulnerable children in Nairobi's informal settlements. These children have often lost one or both of their parents to HIV & are being brought up by kinship carers. In response, Tushinde runs the Family Support Programme; that nurtures and strengthens families.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. Antonia and Beccy are running in the London Landmark's Half Marathon on 3 April 2022, to raise as much money as we can for Tushinde Children's Trust. Tushinde (which means 'we are succeeding') is a charity working in Nairobi's Mathara and Kiambiu informal slum settlements with over 350 vulnerable children. Through their social workers, Tushinde provide tailored family care and education to children from the poorest families in the Nairobi slums. Their work helps families stay together, sponsoring children, supporting schools and raising money for projects to educate children and provide them with opportunities for a better life.

Antonia and Beccy have never taken on a challenge quite as ambitious as this. In fact we're terrified, neither of us being natural runners, but we're training as hard as we can. Your donations will most definitely spur us on to the finish line, and provide life changing support for the children helped by this wonderful charity. Just to give you an idea of the ways your donation might be spent:

£167 Can pay for a toddler to attend day care for a year. (£14 for a month) The child has a safe space to play, morning porridge and a nutritious cooked lunch, whilst their mother goes out to find work.

£35  Could purchase an emergency food parcel for a family in need.

£25  Can provide a family in crisis with a social worker for a month -  to help get the children in school, secure tenancy and access health care.

£60  Could be used as a business start up grant for a family who have stabilised and are ready to leave the programme

£100 can fund a teacher training day - where our team work with the teachers from 17 schools to look at issues of child protection and safeguarding.
