"What is the use of living if it be not to strive for noble causes and to make this muddled world a better place for those who will live in it after we are gone? " Winston Churchill
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. The challenge is self funded and any monies I raise will go towards The Brain Tumour Charity.
This is my first JustGiving page and the first time I have ever asked for donations. A couple months back, prior to beginning my training, even a 5k run was tough going. On 27th February 2018 I'm taking on the biggest challenge of my life - Everest in the Alps. Alongside a team of others, I'll ski, uphill, the height of Everest in just 4 days. It will push me to my limits, mentally and physically. You burn 8,500 calories a day - the equivalent of 2.5 marathons.
But I am doing it for something very important.
Over 26,800 children and young adults have paediatric low grade brain tumour diagnosis. For many this diagnosis means years of gruelling chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery. for those that survive, 6% are left with life altering disability, and the threat of relapse is constant.
Despite this, progress and treatments have not advanced much, and only 1.99% of national cancer research funding is allocated to research into brain tumours.
The Everest in the Alps challenge will raise money for a new, ground-breaking £5m research centre - The Everest Centre for Research into Paediatric Low Grade Brain Tumours.
The Brain Tumour Charity has pledged £5m to the Centre over five years. Through the last Everest in the Alps challenge, an incredible £3m was raised, but we've got more fundraising to do to make sure the vital research can be funded.
Please give generously.
