Story
Just over three years ago I was diagnosed with Parkinson's, aged just 31. I was also diagnosed 2 weeks before the birth of my first child, Isla.
3 years on, I now have a 9 month old son called George.
Now 34, I have decided to take part in the York 10km after my amazing wife posted a brief article on Parkinson's UK facebook. The response was mind blowing, over 7000 people liked it with 100's of people left really positive messages. It has inspired me to challenge myself and fight harder against the disease.
10km may not seem far to some people to me it may as well be a half marathon! As people who have known me since I was young, I have always been sporty but long distance running is definitely not my strong point!!!
I have been training for 3 months and it has had it's high and low points!
Parkinson's has challenged not only myself but my family and in particular my suffering wife. I have not been able to do everything I used to and have serious bouts of fatigue, that impact massively on my free time with my family. Which is precious as I am still working 50+ hours a week running a pub.
Keeping fit helps with my symptoms and I am now enjoying the running! My family and I take every day as it comes and make the most of our time together.
