• Construction of simple solutions to a lack of safe water and sanitation facilities in Tanzania
• In Costa Rica working with communities in buffer zones around national parks to protect biodiversity without restricting development

I was lucky enough to spend 10 weeks in Costa Rica and Nicaragua in 2007 during my gap year. I had been made aware of Raleigh a few years ago by a friend who had just returned from his expedition in Chile. The smile and twinkle in his eye I’ve been lucky to see many times since. The 10 weeks on expedition I can honestly say were as important a stage in my life as school college or university.

For many like myself it felt like the biggest step into the big wide world you could make, meeting people from different countries, social backgrounds, ages and history, it was a microcosm of excitement and enthusiasm from the word go.
