Growing my hair to donate for a child's wig · 3 May 2013

The Little Princess Trust provides real hair wigs, free of charge, to children and young people who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment or to other conditions. The charity is also one of the largest funders of childhood cancer research in the UK.

Story

Our 8 year old son wants to raise sponsorship of £1800 for the Little Princess Trust, who make wigs for children with serious illness!!

When he was even younger, he spent a lot of time in hospital, coping with chronic eczema, asthma and multiple of allergies.

He is so much stronger now, but at one of our hospital visits, he asked why one little girl had a bald head. We explained that she was very sick (she had cancer) and that the drugs she was taking, had caused her hairloss. Even then, at such a young age, he said he would have liked to give his hair to that little girl...

That's when we found out about The Little Princess Trust, which provides free, comfortable, natural-looking wigs, for sick children. Even though most donations are made by girls, last Summer Ben decided to grow his hair for the charity! One year later, Ben’s hair is already almost 5” long!

Sadly, strangers often assume he is a girl and he has been teased for having long hair. People change their tune quickly when they realise it’s for a charity. However it demonstrates just how hard it is for children to look ‘different’...even now and Ben’s experiences show just how important it is to provide these wigs for children. They are coping with a serious illness already and just want to feel and live as ‘normal’ a life as possible.

So please give Ben the courage and support to continue to grow his hair, which needs to be at least 7” long (approx 18cm), before donation.

Despite the hair being donated, the creation of each wig costs the charity approx £350.

So the charity accepts donations of money, as well as hair and we are asking you to sponsor Ben and help him raise as much money as possible, before the big cut this Autumn!

Any donation is very much appreciated, whether small or large, but a suggested donation would be just £7-£18 (the equivalent of £1 per inch or centimetre).

If 100 people sponsor Ben, he could raise £700-£1800!

£700 is the equivalent cost of 2 wigs!!

£1800 would provide over 5 wigs!!!

Please pass the link to this page to all your friends and family too and thank you again for helping Ben to help other children.

Thank you!
