Story
Historically, the Tesco team would comprise of a couple of Exec Committee members, representation from the UK Board, and a mix of keen/avid cyclists. Unfortunately, due to some long standing diary commitments that wasn’t possible this year, but clearly wanting to continue to support GroceryAid, we were tasked to pull together a team of “a group of people that would like to participate who would enjoy the experience”. So .... here we are! We have 27 days before the big event. We have a team of five super-unqualified cyclists. We have no idea if we can make it to the end, whilst at the same time, know we will.
Our team: Karen (self nominated!) team Captain who has a habit of coming up with “fabulous ideas” and convinces others to join her : Steve - remembers (clearly better than Karen) how tough the Surrey Downs were in 2017, but eventually agreed that whilst the idea is not exactly “fabulous”, it would be a great experience for a great cause : Sam - agreed to the challenge immediately … and has questioned this decision ever since : Chris - a relative newbie to the team and has spent the last four weeks cycling like mad on his turbo trainer : Blake - joined the team two weeks ago - superfit, active sportsman who has been made to promise he will pretend to be as unqualified as the rest of us.
We’ve had more than our fair share of injuries along the way which has slowed down our training, but quite simply, we have the best team wanting to cycle for an amazing charity, and plan to enjoy every minute (apart from the hills!)
