Story
Kate entered me in to a 100 mile bike ride. At first I was angry but then I thought how it would be a good opportunity to raise money for a charity close to my heart! Imagine my disappointment when the commiserations magazine arrived in the post!
Not to be beaten easily, I signed up with breast cancer now. This now means raising the money is more important than ever as like most charities there is a minimum requirement.
As most of you know, my family are no stranger to cancer. Unfortunately my grandparents & step dad all lost their battles with the nasty disease.
Just when you think that life has thrown all it can at you, that nasty disease strikes again! In 2014, my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer.
After multiple chemo sessions, radiotherapy, an operation and complete hair loss, I am pleased that my Mum is now on the road to recovery!
I am doing this ride not only to celebrate my mums achievement and courage but to thank the nurses & doctors that helped with her care and supported our family!
Having already done the ride, Kate secured a ballot place and has agreed to play domestique for the day. Apparently, that doesn't mean I can tie a rope to her bike and get pulled along though. What it does mean is that she'll be there to support me in this great challenge and help fundraise for this great cause.
We are taking on this challenge to stop a disease that takes the lives of nearly 12,000 women every year. Our mothers, daughters, sisters, wives and friends. Together, we’re giving our all to fund research and find answers now. We’re out there training come rain or shine, because every moment counts. We’re the first-timers, the give-it-a-goers, the ones who just love a challenge and the ones who wonder ‘what was I thinking?’ We’re stronger than we knew, and achieving things we’ve always dreamed of. We’re Team Now, and we’re doing it so that everyone who faces breast cancer will live.
