Story
As most of you know we are not the most athletic or adventurous of people but for some reason find ourselves encouraging each other to sign up to charity challenges! It was during last years Shine walking marathon that we both had ideas for 2014 challenges....Beth thinking it would be fun to climb Ben Nevis at night and Kiri's thinking running a half marathon would be possible! At 3am, 20 miles in and both slightly delirious, we both agreed to each other's challenges!
Fast forward to 2014 and we have now signed up to climb Ben Nevis on the 20th June and then run the Royal Parks Half Marathon on the 12th October - both in aid of the Alzheimer's Society.
Ben Nevis is the highest mountain in the UK (4,409ft!) and this climb will involve a 22 mile trek throughout the night. The Royal Parks Half Marathon is a 13.1 mile run through central London and four royal parks.
Working as a social worker on a dementia ward Beth sees daily the devastating effects that dementia has not only on the individual but also on their families. The Alzheimer's Society are a fantastic charity which support those affected throughout every stage of the illness providing practical and emotional support. As a charity, for them to be able to continue, as the ageing population increases they need an ever increasing amount of financial support....
And that's where we hope you can help!
Any support you can give us will not only help those affected but will also but a huge encouragement to us in our training climbing and running!
Thank you so much in advance!
Kiri and Beth xxx
