Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my page. The Oceans 7 challenge is the swimming equivalent of mountaineering's seven summits. Only 6 people have completed the channel swimming list in their lifetime and I was attempting to become the first person ever to complete the list in a single year. I got over half way there, with 4 successful channel crossings- the equal to the current record!

I am supporting Action for ME because whilst today I might be a successful marathon swimmer, at 17 years old I was in a wheelchair.

My childhood was overshadowed my ME. I contracted glandular fever at the age of 10 and never fully recovered. My adolescence was marred by periods of immune dysfunction and exhaustion until I found myself in a wheelchair. It took a long time to regain my mobility and took even longer to even begin to regain trust in my body and learn how to live with ME. Today I live symptom free, but I know that it is always there and it has played a significant part in the decisions I've made and the way I live my life. ME does not define me, but it will always be a part of me.

Action for ME offer vital support and information to those suffering and their families and seeks to raise the profile of this debilitating disease to promote vital research into the cause and potential remedies. Please help support the vital work to give hope to those who are often left in the shadows and don't have the strength to stand up for themselves.

Thank you

If you're entering our raffle you get 2 tickets for every £5 donated!!!  Thanks!

Beth, you are a real inspiration to us. I'm 170km into my own challenge to swim the coast of Cornwall. Nothing compared to the Oceans 7 as I only swim 10k at a time! Love and best wishes Mark Richards
