Story
I am running the Bath Half Marathon for this gorgeous little chap - Eddie. He has a rare genetic condition which caused a bleed on his brain in the womb, leaving him with a severe brain injury. As a result, Eddie has various neurological conditions; he is registered as functionally blind has Cerebral Palsy affecting all of his limbs and West syndrome. West syndrome is a rare and severe form of epilepsy that causes catastrophic seizures daily. This has had a truly devastating impact on his development.
Having a child with complex needs is challenging on many levels but Eddie’s lovely parents will also tell you what a joy he is and how amazing it is when they see him make even the slightest progress. However, the costs associated with anything 'special needs' are truly eye-watering and there is a lack of specialist support and equipment available on the NHS. So I am raising funds to help with the ongoing costs of equipment as well as physiotherapy and hydrotherapy sessions to support the development of this beautiful and determined little boy.
I am also supporting Eddie's parents Ilmarie and Alex in their campaign to allow children like Eddie the access to medical cannabis, a drug that is proven to have a significant effect on epilepsy and to raise funds for a private prescription if necessary.
