Story

Thank you for visiting our fundraising page for the COINS 3 Peaks Challenge.  The seeds for this challenge, which is taking place on the 17/18 May 2008, were sown at the Construction Manager of the Year Awards 2007 awards ceremony held at the Grosvenor Hotel in London last October.  Glad-rags to walking boots is a giant step … but the COINS presentation on the evening gave an insight into the projects undertaken by Care International a humanitarian organisation which helps poor and marginalized people in over 70 countries who are fighting HIV and Aids on a daily basis; the after-effects of the Tsunami, which left many without housing, jobs or healthcare; whole communities who are without safe drinking water and sanitation which are the basic requirements for humanity; child mortality rates which are unheard of in the western world and hundreds of thousands of misplaced people in war zones requiring refuge in emergency camps … Care International is a lifeline for these people and they need assistance from us all.

COINS have also extended their support this year to Habitat for Humanity, whose sole aim is to tackle poverty housing on a global scale and SteppingOn who have been recently established with the aim to improve outcomes for vulnerable, disadvantaged and disabled children and young people worldwide.   Seeing the results of these projects and the difference it has made to individuals was inspirational and made scaling three peaks – albeit the highest in England, Scotland and Wales - within 24-hours, seem a minor hardship … shortly, thereafter the Bewley Volunteers? was formed.

Who are the Bewley Volunteers?... See picture (left to right), we have the team leader, Steve Parks, Gill Fairclough, Graham Odell, Steve Wright and Simon Taphouse.

Since first displaying the Just Giving page, the Bewley Volunteers ? have completed the stamina-building stage of their training programme culminating in a brisk twenty mile South Downs circular walk from Beachy Head near Eastbourne. The team are now concentrating on their hill training and have so far had a practice go at Scafell Pike in the snow, reputedly the toughest of the three peaks of the challenge, and they have also braved torrential rain and gale force winds in the Brecon Beacons during a gruelling fifteen mile walk. The team have three more walks planned in the Brecon Beacons before they take on the challenge itself.

However, May will soon be upon us and the challenge is serious therefore we would very much appreciate your generous support which hopefully will make the miles seem a little shorter … also, any advice on eradicating midges, keeping cool if it’s hot and hot if it’s cool … would be gratefully received.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: The COINS Foundation will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

So please sponsor us now!

Many thanks for your support.
