Reading Half Marathon 2012 · 1 April 2012 ·

We’re the only charity fighting to end child abuse in the UK and Channel Islands. That’s why we help children who’ve been abused to rebuild their lives, we protect children at risk, and we find the best ways of preventing child abuse from ever happening.

Story

Hello and thank you for taking the time to vist our just giving page.

As you are probably aware Waseem and Shehnaz are planning on running the Reading Half Marathon on April 1st 2012.

I know what you are thinking and no, its not an April fools joke, we really are!

We both do not run and have never run a long distance before, however we try to keep fit in other sports, so we thought this should not be that difficult. Now that we have begun training this has probably emerged to be one of the toughest challenges we have set ourselves to date.

We can do it, but only with your help and support.

The charity we have decided to run for is the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children or better known as the NSPCC. We chose this charity after reading a news article about a Court Judge in the USA was videotaped savagely beating his disabled daughter. What makes it worse is this so called Judge presides over child abuse cases in the USA and because of his status, the police will not be filing charges against him. This is unacceptable and we would like to believe that this does not happen here in the UK, unfortunately we cannot and there are still children out there too scared to do what this girl in the USA did by speaking to someone. The NSPCC is inspired by a belief that we can make a difference for all children. That’s why they aim to end cruelty to children in the UK. Even if it takes many generations to realise it, they achieve much more for children by having this inspirational vision.
