Highland Cross is a 50 mile duathlon (walking or running 20 miles and cycling 30 miles) across Scotland from Kintail to Beauly. The event is organised by volunteers to raise funds for charities across the Highlands. Since 1983, over £6.3m has been raised and distributed in full to deserving causes.

Story

I've taken part in the Highland Cross evert year since 1997 with the exception of 1998.  The Highland Cross is a duathlon from Morvich in Kintail with a cross country run of 20 miles across some rugged terrain  to the eastern end of Loch Affric followed by a 30 mile bike race to Beauly--please  have a look the photos and video on the HC web site.

This year, one of the nominated charities is the Chest. Heart and Stroke Association which is of special interest to me as several members of my family have had heart, stroke and/or chest problems and I personally had a series of mini-strokes in September 2012- thankfully without further complications thanks to excellent medical/nursing care and by getting my blood pressure monitored and under control.  Please don't make the error that I made of ignoring high BP readings.

The costs of staging the Highland Cross is funded by entrance fees and corporate sponsorship so any sponsorship that I raise goes directly to the nominated charities.
