Story
As many of you may know, My dad Bill has been fighting Guillain Barré Syndrome/ CIDP since August 2013
CIDP is Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy is believed to be due to immune cells, which normally protect the body from foreign infection, incorrectly attacking the nerves in the body instead. As a result, the affected nerves fail to respond. This causes loss of movement in varying degrees in patients. But has meant that my dad ended up, after extended time in hospital and Intensive care, with limited use of his hands and legs. He had total muscle wastage, pneumonia and several other complications that tried to see him off. I am very lucky to still have a dad, and we are very proud of the way he has fought back from the brink several times. Even the doctors where telling us to prepare for the worst. But, he's still here!
Dad is currently going through Physio which is helping him learn to walk and stand again, which he is in the early stages of being able to. I hope that one day we will see him walk unaided, but for now I am happy to see his progress little by little.
Dad is now on his second mission after shaving his hair off last September to raise £160 for gain, you can see what he did for that on this link https://www.justgiving.com/billshairchop or
***25th December 2015***
As you may remember is September this year dad shaved his head to raise money for charity. He was very successful and raised £160 thanks to the generosity of you lovely people.
This time he hopes to walk Half a Mile on his elbow crutches. He would like to try and do this by the end of February 2016- this is his target date weather permitting. He can currently walk a small distance now on his crutches but is getting stronger daily.
Dad wants to raise some money again for GAIN charity, which works with people with GBS/CIDP.
Apart from a week in march when dad was back in hospital with complications and an infection he has been making steady progress towards his recovery.
We will keep you updated with his progress. Many Thanks!
