Every day, people experience the misfortune of being told that either they or their loved ones have cancer. Mine was June 4th 2016.
My boyfriend was diagnosed with colorectal cancer, but fortunately for us, it was caught just in time before it could spread. The tumour was successfully removed and he's now undergoing chemo to make sure the fecker's gone for good. We're one of the lucky ones.
None of this could have been possible without the surgeons, doctors, nurses, support staff and our local Daffodil Centre.
As a thank you, and part of TodayFM's 'Dare to Care' for the Irish Cancer Society, I am publicly humiliating myself and my friends by hosting a game of Binocular Soccer.
Inspired by a Japanese game show (shows which are not in the business of preserving dignity), we'll be attempting to successfully play a 5-a-side soccer match while having binoculars strapped to our heads. What players normally take for granted - running forward, kicking a ball - will become incredibly difficult manoeuvres ... but makes for incredibly entertaining viewing.
Kick off (or an effort to kick off!) will be at Shelbourne Park, Limerick, Friday 30th September at 6pm.
Please donate what you can for this great cause and help us reach our target.
If you'd like to get involved on the day or donate footballs, kits or anything you think may be of use, please get in touch at jenny.gilleece@gmail.com.
