A Bridge Too Far Bike Ride · 13 September 2010
NEWSFLASH!
We did it! At about 3pm on Saturday 18th September both of us crossed the finishing line to the sound of a military band and clapping. We are both intensely proud of what we have achieved which at the moment outweighs any aches and pains we may have picked up along the way!
Thank you to everyone for their support - we have been incredibly touched by people's generosity. Please continue to give - as we rode across Belgium and Holland we were accompanied by some of the injured soldiers who have benefited from the support of Help for Heroes and the difference the projects Help for Heroes run has made to their lives is immense.

Hello!
Welcome to Linda and Vicky's justgiving page - thanks very much for stopping by, please dig deep and support us and more importantly our fantastic charity, Help for Heroes
In September we are going to be cycling 350miles taking a similar route to that of Operation Market Garden. We're hoping that unlike 1944, Arnhem won't be a bridge too far!
We will be crossing to Brussels by Eurostar, before riding down to Waterloo and then with heads down and bottoms up heading for Eindhoven. We will then follow the route taken by the tanks as they tried to break through to reach the Red Devils holding the bridge at Arnhem. Our arrival there will coincide with an airborne weekend of remembrance of the battle and we will join in with that before heading home so mum can celebrate her 30th wedding anniversay.
Prior to this neither of us have been on a bike for about ten years and the thought of wearing lycra is frankly horrifying but we are prepared to go through the humiliation of showing off those lumpy bits, using the falling off technique as standard dismount procedure for getting off our bikes and fluttering our eyelashes to get someone else to fix our punctures all in the name of supporting those young servicemen and women who have been injured.
Help for Heroes spends every penny possible on making grants that aim to provide practical, direct support for our wounded. Their current focus is for grants to create a series of regional Recovery Houses to be built across the UK and serve as the last stage of rehabilitation before a serviceman, or woman, returns to their unit or transits back into civilian life. The current target for this is to raise £20 million by October 2010. You can find more about the work Help for Heroes do at http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk/
Thank you to everyone who has supported us so far, especially those of our friends who have hosted events for us, but please continue to dig deep and donate now - we are really very grateful for any support you can give us!
