Story

The Bluebell Birth Centre is now open at Warwick hospital and to make it the best it can be, a fundraising appeal of £200,000 is taking place to make enhancements that cannot be funded by the NHS.

At Warwick Hospital, we want to give women more choice when they are giving birth. To support this, a Midwifery Led Unit is being created on the Warwick hospital site in 2018. This new unit will complement the current Consultant Obstetric Unit and community home birthing teams. It is important for mother’s to be able to give birth in a relaxed and comfortable environment and this additional choice will benefit families across South Warwickshire and beyond. This will not only affect expectant mothers and their partners, but future generations to come. To ensure the new Midwifery Led Unit is the best it can be we have launched a fundraising appeal of £200,000 to make enhancements that cannot be funded by the NHS.

What is the Birth & Babies Appeal?

We are raising money for the Bluebell Birth Centre at Warwick Hospital. We are aiming to raise £200k for a wish-list of items that will make the centre the best that it can be.

What's on the wish-list?

- Saddle seats which enable women to be in an upright position which can be more comfortable, may make labour shorter, and can be better for baby. It can also reduce the chances of tearing.

- Birth floor mats which actively helps mothers optimise the potential for physiological labour & birth.

- Breast pumps for women to support them successfully initiate, build and maintain an adequate milk production.

We have raised over £165k so far, but still really need your support to reach the £200k as soon as possible

What is Midwifery led unit?

Birthing centres or midwifery units are run by midwives without the medical facilities of a hospital. They can be next to a main hospital maternity unit or completely separate from hospital. Because most women can give birth without needing medical interventions, these units provide a good alternative to hospital birth. At Warwick, if complications arise during birth you will be able to access the Consultant Obstetric Unit within the same hospital.
