Story

Thank you for taking the time to read about the story of this Mosque, this region, this locality...

The origins of this Mosque date back to over 35 years ago when a small group of devout Muslims in the West Midlands town of Blackheath came together to form a communal hub to offer prayers and form a collective voice for Muslims in the community.

The earliest Mosque was based in a house of one of the founding members. They would meet regularly to pray and also hold various religious events to promote community cohesion. As the Muslim community grew the space became inadequate for their needs, as a result the very first fundraise was performed and the plot of land on Malt Mill Lane was purchased with Allah s.w.t's blessing. This really was a blessed day in the history of Blackheath Jamia Mosque Trust.

The plot of land was further established with the installation of two large, what were to be temporary mobile units. One to serve as the Male prayer hall, Kitchen, Washrooms and Imam's quarters and the second to serve as the Ladies Prayer hall and washrooms. Over the years due to various reasons such as a lack of competent management and other controversies, this mosque building project had been unable to get off the ground and the temporary mobile units became a permanent fixture as the play to pray.

I am now 31 years old, but as far as I can remember I have been praying in the mobile units, from the old orange minibus that used to pick us up from our homes and take us for Quran class to Eid Prayers where you would have to breathe in so everybody could fit into the mosque. We have seen many changes over the years, Blackheath got a new mega Sainsbury's yet our humble mosque remained an ageing mobile unit.

Fast forward to 2010, and the introduction of the new fresh forward thinking management committee and trustees. We have seen this mosque project finally get underway. Being a relatively small community, raising funds was extremely difficult for us for such a project but Alhumdulillah by the Grace of Allah s.w.t. the building has continued to progress and take shape. This was an unseen moment in the history of Blackheath Jamia Mosque.

We are at the stage now to finally seal the building through the installation of the windows and doors. This is a humble appeal and request to please help us raise enough money to seal the building so that we can start using it inside and begin the internal works.

I would like to reach out to every person out there who has the ability to help, no matter how small your contribution is, you have been promised to be rewarded 7 times over. By giving Sadaqah to the Mosque you are contributing to your own house in Paradise.

May Allah s.w.t. reward you in abundance and thank you once again.
