#BlackInGeoscience

#BlackInGeoscience · 24 July 2020
The #BlackInGeoscience initiative was born following the success of an EGU GD's blog post from June 2020, showcasing Black scientists and highlighting the need to work together to increase diversity, equality and inclusion in the Earth Sciences.
The #BlackInGeoscience logo quickly became a symbol of the need to stand together against racism and discrimination in our discipline. After setting up a merch shop (linked below), my colleague Conall Mac Niocaill had the idea to take this further by turning the logo into pin badges. We thought that, this way, we could also use the distribution of the badges as means of raising awareness of anti-racism charities.
We hope that, if you are reading this, it is because a pin badge has made its way into your hands (if not, go sign up to request one on the link below), and you've chosen to make a donation in return. Thank you for joining in!
About the charity: Show Racism the Red Card is an anti-racism educational charity that uses workshops and training sessions, among other resources, to educate on and combat racism. Founded almost 25 years ago, the organisation uses high-profile football players to publicise its message.
