Flora London Marathon 2008 · 13 April 2008 ·

Every day in the UK, another 240 people wake up to the catastrophic impact of a stroke. The Stroke Association is the leading charity in the UK providing lifelong support for all stroke survivors and their families.

Story

Hi! Well it's over. I finished! But not with a lot of style! At just over 6 miles, I was going well, target +/- 4 hours: all looking good! Then, drama! Calf muscle snapped. St John's Ambulance strapped me up in the middle of a torrential downpour.... and I walked the last 20 miles! It is easier to run! I still manged to do it in c.5 hrs 35 mins (45 minutes slower than 2007). I'll be back!!

If you are returning to this site to see how I got on: thank you for your support! If you haven't done so and wish to donate to The Stroke Association, great! Thank you! I expect you know someone who has suffered a stroke. A stroke is the third most common cause of death in the UK. It is also a leading cause of severe adult disability. More than 250,000 people live with disabilities caused by stroke.

My business White Maple Consulting Ltd matched all donations to an overall maximum of £1,000.

The winner of the "guess the time" competition was David Grant who guessed 4 hours 34 minutes and 30 seconds. Well done David! And he very kindly asked me to make an additional donation instead of having a personal prize.

Best wishes

Bob
