Macmillan Cancer Support - London to Paris Cycling Challenge · 8 July 2009 ·
Thanks for visiting our fundraising page, if you got here you probably know at least one of the family.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Macmillan Cancer Support gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
Juanita, Julie and Jane, three sisters, three daughters of keen cyclist, Bob Mansell are embarking on a Cycling Challenge - London to Paris in August 2009.
This is in memory of their Dad, Bob Mansell, who passed away three years ago. Dad was diagonosed with a brain tumour and during his illness he and his family were supported by Macmillan Nurses. Go to our local Macmillan webpage for a delightful picture of Juanita in China - thanks Ann! http://www.macmillan.org.uk/Get_Involved/In_your_area/England/West_Midlands/Local_news/NEWSOldburyMumOf2KeepsCyclingInMemoryOfHerDadBob.aspx
Juanita, the eldest sister started the ball rolling by taking on a Cycling Challenge in Peru in 2006. (Julie, the middle sister did all the training with her. Jane the youngest sister went out cycling with them just ONCE) Juanita, then went to do another Cycling Challenge in Vietnam in 2007 and has just completed a third Challenge in China in October of this year. (Julie the middle sister, still carried on helping and supporting her big sister by being her training partner for all these challenges - Jane the youngest sister didn't do any cycling with them- typical of the baby of the family - let everyone else do the work! If you have younger siblings you will be familiar with this syndrome)
Well...Juanita and Julie had, had enough of this and so using various methods of 'persuasion' that only older sisters know how - but which go along the lines of "We're going to tell mom about the time you ************" Jane was eventually persuaded that she needed to get 'on her bike' as well! She is now a member of the team and all three sisters are cycling together from London to Paris in August 2009 in memory of their Dad, Bob Mansell. He would have been so proud!
Keep watching this space and we will keep you informed of any fundraising we are doing.......................
Thursday 18th December - what a week! Fantastic collection at Melbicks last weekend, supported fantastically by Emma Lindop (nursing a hangover), what a star. She has been nominated for bag packer of the month, yeah!!!!!!!!! This however, was somewhat overshadowed by the LEJOG donation of £1000 - fantastic, thanks and merry christmas to all of you guys. We had such fun doing it - well Juanita did, driving the van.
Watch out for next years fundraising - ideas so far - lots more raffles and parties, pampering and how about a "Clothes Swap"? Any thoughts. There are also one or two people with businesses who may wish to advertise on our cycling shirts.
We are off to Melbicks again this weekend to see if we can get past the magical £2000 mark before the end of 2008. So, it looks like at least one of us are going, lets get to work on the other two. Merry Christmas and a happy new year to everyone who is supporting Macmillan via our efforts. Thank you all. PS Did anyone hear Alan Shearer (superstar) say that cycling for more than 3 days was the hardest thing he has ever done in his life? Say no more.................
Sadly when we got to Melbicks there had been a mix up and the scouts were there before us so we had a breakfast and did some shopping instead! Never mind, we have some ideas up our sleeves!
Ok folks, theres been no action on here for a while but there has been plenty of action in the real world! We are now a team of five with Ralph Conner and Jimmy Lee joining us. Jimmy Blackwood is hosting a birthday party at Azzari Too and has asked that guests donate to Macmillan rather than buy him a present - fantastic for us! Jimmy Lee has a few ideas up his sleeve and has his own justgiving page (jimmylee1). We all have lots of ideas and will keep you posted.
Thanks to the Express and Star for the fantastic photograph and article in Mondays edition and thanks to anyone who is here as a result of that article.
We will all be at the fun run on 3rd may supporting the runners in Perry Park, around Birmingham and Alexander Stadium.
Thank you for your donations, will thank you in person when we see you! Training going well. Barry Hall from Azzari Too Restaurant (www.azzaritoo.co.uk) is very kindly supporting us with a number of events in the future.
On 25th July 2009 Jimmy Lee is hosting a Summer Ball at GKN Smethwick - watch this space for details ............. and once again thank you all x
On Friday we went to Darlaston Conservative Club for UB40 tribute night and raised over £70! Special thanks to Steve for arranging it for us to support Jonny 2 bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the best UB40 tribute band ever!!!!!!!!!!!!
Today we raised over £600 at Errolls birthday bash - it was lovely to see everone and we had a great time, thanks for your generosity.
These donations keep coming in which is absolutely fantastic - rest assured we are getting the miles in too!
Its probably pay day for most of you, why not buy your tickets for Jimmys Summer Party (25th July) on here and we will give you the tickets when we see you, that way it will feel like a free night out!!!!!!!!
We are almost at our target and already thinking really hard about next years trip! Thank you for all your support - it's amazing!
Countdown in is on and we will be well on our way this time next week. Sadly Jane has had to drop out of the challenge due to other family commitments. On a positive note can we thank you all for your support financially - those donations keep coming in (special thanks to Sunil and The Hamsters!!!!). We now have our very own cycling jerseys, thanks to Neil at First Site Group Ltd., Keep looking on here for details of how we get on - oh and some photographs! Au Revoir!
Monday 24th August 2009 We are back and we cycled every single mile from Blackheath in London to Dover, over on the ferry to Calais, across to Arras, down to Compiegne and into Paris, past the Arc De Triumph, down the Champs Elysee and under the Eiffel Tower! An amazing ride for us all, very emotional and hopefully of great benefit to the wonderful charity Macmillan. Thank you for all your support. Julie has now got the bug and wants to do Central America with Juanita - watch this space! Thank you all for your marvellous ongoing support, we truly appreciate it. Juanita and Julie xxx
