A 2020 Bouldering Challenge

The 2020 Bouldering Challenge · 7 June 2019
How exciting is it that climbing is making its debut as an
Olympic sport!?
To celebrate all the good our sport brings, and its well-deserved popularity, I’ll be running a fun 2020 Olympics-themed event, with all profits going to Urban Uprising.
So, come down to Eden Rock Edinburgh on Friday 7th June 18:30-21:00 and take part in the 2020 Bouldering Challenge: can you top 20 boulders in 20 minutes?
There’ll be other fun bouldering challenges, a raffle with some sweeeet prizes from our sponsors deWoodstock and La Sportiva and of course all-important cake (to fuel those power screams!). *Please bring a bit of cash to enter the raffle or buy some pay-what-you-can cake.
Help Urban Uprising and I plan a memorable night, reach our £500 target (or more? You decide!), and continue giving young people the power to scale those walls (yup, that’s the plastic ones and the symbolic ones, you got it!).
** A note on climbing, Urban Uprising, and opportunities **
Climbing and its disciplines have become increasingly popular these past few decades, with an impressive boom in recent years. It’s no surprise really! Climbing brings so many benefits to its adepts, seasoned pros and total beginners alike.
Whether you took up climbing or bouldering recently, have been hitting “real rock” whenever you can for as long as you can remember, or just really fancied trying something new the other day, you’ll have noticed all the good things that come with climbing. From the social aspect to the problem solving and the “I didn’t even know that muscle existed”, there really are a million reasons to love climbing and bouldering.
If only everyone could savour what joy our sport brings! From the wee ones to the wise ones, everyone can benefit from climbing. It's an accessible sport, with not much need to start off but a comfy pair of trousers and a local gym. But it’s not always so easy, and many people – especially young ones – who could really thrive from hitting the wall don’t necessarily have access to it. There’s getting to the gym, paying entry, hiring shoes, getting proper instruction … or even just being conscious that climbing is an activity everyone can take part in!
That’s where Urban Uprising come in. They empower and inspire young people through climbing, encouraging them discover all the things their body and mind can do. From introductions to the sport to full courses where the kids can gain confidence in their skills, Urban Uprising really makes an impact. These courses, this support, these initiatives, they all have a cost! Everything is donation-funded and volunteer-supervised, so kind souls’ generosity is primordial for Uprisings to continue.
And … that’s where YOU come in!
Climbing has brought so much to my life – and perhaps to yours? I deeply hope that as many people as possible can experience that, and I
admire Urban Uprising for their work with the young ones, from Brazil through to Scotland. That’s why, today, I’d like to appeal to your generosity to help me raise money for this wonderful organisation. Just think about it: as little as £5 can make a difference in a child’s life! And that’s not all:
- £10 Pays for one young person to go on a climbing excursion
- £40 pays for child’s helmet, harness or shoes, one day's bus hire for a climbing trip
- £100 funds a day's one-to-one tuition for an experienced student
- £140 enables UU to run a taster session for 12 people
- £600 could cover 4 of those sessions, or a full 8 week block for about
6 kids
- Think what £1000 could do! That’s an 8 week block for 12 young ones, for example.
Thanks for any help big or small you can bring to support Urban Uprising. Can’t donate? Swing by Eden Rock Edinburgh on June 7th, or help us by sharing this page with people around you, climbers or non-climbers (or as I like to call them, future-climbers).
Thanks a million!
