Chandni & Harin Walk Together for Bowel Cancer

Walk Together London · 23 September 2017 ·
Thanks for visiting our sponsorship page. On Saturday 23rd September, we are joining Bowel Cancer UK for their very first 5 mile Walk Together in London. We would be extremely grateful for any donations to support Bowel Cancer UK’s fantastic work and raise awareness about bowel cancer.
Bowel cancer is the fourth most common cancer in the UK and second biggest cause of cancer deaths. 15,900 people lose their life to bowel cancer each year in the UK. Only 58.7% of the 41,300 people diagnosed each year will survive for five years or more. For people diagnosed at the latest stage of the disease, this falls to less than one in ten.
However, this shouldn’t be the case. The disease is preventable, treatable and curable. Lives can be saved if we could diagnose people earlier, develop new and more effective treatments, and ensure all patients have access to high quality care.
Bowel Cancer UK’s research focuses on investigating the gaps in bowel cancer research, understanding bowel cancer in younger people and improving surgery for patients. The charity campaigns for early diagnosis and access to best treatment and care for patients. They also educate patients, the public and professionals about the disease. The charity aims to increase the number of people surviving bowel cancer within five years of diagnosis from 60% to 75% by 2025.
Bowel Cancer UK's Never Too Young Campaign especially resonates with us, as Harin’s Mum was diagnosed at a later stage of bowel cancer and sadly passed away in 2011, aged 47. More than 2,500 people under 50 are diagnosed in the UK each year and this number is slowly rising - one reason for this is there’s serious delays in bowel cancer diagnosis in people under 50. The charity aims to promote symptom awareness, early detection and research in people under 50. We would like to partake in this event and raise money in her memory.
Many thanks for your support. Together we can stop bowel cancer.
If you are a UK taxpayer, please remember to tick the Gift Aid box when donating as this will increase your donation by 25% at no cost to you.
