My 11-year-old and I are back for our second race ever! We've set two goals for ourselves:

1) Beat our time from last year's 5k (40:17)

2) Raise money for charity while we're at it!

I started running last year because my then-10-year-old asked if I wanted to do a race. Neither one of us had ever done a race, yet we signed up for the 5k!

The race was a success in so many ways: we had loads of fun training together, we were proud of finishing the race together, and we raised money for two charities. Lou raised money for the Ottawa Humane Society and I raised money for the charity I have the privilege of working for, Ottawa Riverkeeper. We called ourselves "the mudpuppies" to represent both charities.
