Being diagnosed with a terminal illness can turn your world upside down. We're here to help people make the most of the time they have left, and provide expert care so that they can die with dignity. Your donation today will help us to be here for people in East London when they need us.

Story

On May 18th, I'll be running the Hackney Half for Susan and for St Joseph’s Hospice.

Those who knew Susan will know that she was the most brilliant, warm, loving, beautiful person you could ever meet, who lived every moment to the fullest. She was an incredible power woman: a cherished friend to so many, a loving daughter, a brilliant sister, a beloved aunty, and most importantly, the most wonderful mother to Peter and Ruby.

We will always be devastated to have lost her on February 4th this year, almost five years after being given a terminal cancer diagnosis.

On May 18th, I’ll be running the Hackney Half Marathon in Susan’s memory and to raise funds for the amazing St Joseph’s Hospice, who transformed the last few weeks of her life.

We were all completely blown away by the level of attention, warmth, care, dignity, humour and, well, just humanness that the team showed her (and us) every single day. They gave Susan the gift of a few more laughs with her pals, a few more hugs with her family, a last birthday celebration out, and a few more precious good days with her beloved children.

We can never thank them enough for the difference they made at the most unbearable of times.

If you’re able to, please donate - every pound helps St Joseph’s give this kind of exceptional care to other families going through the hardest moments.

----

St Joseph’s Hospice opened in Hackney in 1905, and since then has been caring for and supporting people affected by serious illness in eight London boroughs. We work to improve the quality of life of more than 2,100 patients with life-limiting conditions each year, helping them live life to the full, to the very last. We have to raise £16,000 each day to keep our vital services running and available to the 2.2 million people in our diverse community, so every penny raised for our hospice is really important, and very much appreciated.
