Story

Bracha: I am going to take part in "Race for Life"  this June with my daughter Hagar and my friend Debora. When diagnosed last year with breast cancer I felt I was trapped inside my worst nightmare. Looking back, I  know I have been extremely lucky. I received excellent  treatment and I can now say I'm back to my old self. I realised  there is so much that can be done nowadays to treat and cure this disease, and this is thanks to ongoing research. But the research and development of new treatments and medication must continue for all cancer types. By taking part in this event we are supporting this worthy cause!

Debora: I am walking 5km this year to support my dear friend Bracha who recently experienced breast cancer. Unfortunately, her story is quite common. In the last five years, I have known of six women who have undergone treatment for breast cancer. These women are a mix of friends, colleagues and family. I myself am a cancer survivor, having experienced Hodgkins lymphoma in 1984. My personal journey, all those years ago, seems like a vague and distant dream. There are days when it feels as if it were not me at all, I have forgotten so much. I try to enjoy my life as much as possible, for I know that my survival is an amazing thing. In most aspects of my life, I would say that I created my own luck, my cancer experience being the only exception. I owe my survival to the amazing developments and advances of modern medicine. I have been supporting cancer research for the last twenty years and this year have decided to take part in the "Race for Life", which is an excellent initiative both in raising awareness and in raising much-needed funds for ongoing research.
