Heineken Race to the Castle 2020

Heineken Race to the Castle · 6 June 2020
Dad received the diagnosis of Parkinsons following a drawn out gradual unwelcome appearance of distressing and irritating symptoms. Sadly, he is not the only one to suffer this illness, indeed his sister-in-law Wendy also has Parkinsons as did one of his dear friends. Astoundingly, every hour in the UK a further two people are told that they have Parkinson’s disease
Just as black mould creeps slowly across a freshly painted white wall,
Parkinsons is progressive. It is a neurological condition which means that it causes problems in the brain and gets worse over time. As each brain is different there is no uniform pathway for those afflicted - rather, the patient is generally expected to muddle through until they find treatment that works for them.
We all need to understand the implications of what it means to have a neurological disease and why we all should have a vested interest in awareness, research, cure and prevention. Even if you are not directly impacted already, the chances are that you will know of someone who has had or did have a neurological health issue. The reality is that we all have brains (even if it feels at times that some do not!) and we need to understand how to best take care of them - our brains tell our bodies what to do -so clearly, they are kind of a "big deal".
In 2020 I have decided to take on this 100km challenge to support Parkinsons UK for Dad, for Wendy, for others who receive the devastating diagnosis and of course, people who live with and care for those who have the disease.
Parkinsons is so much more than being a little bit more doddery... if like me, you don’t really know much about this illness you can find out more here: - https://www.parkinsons.org.uk/information-and-support/what-parkinsons
Now the "dull but necessary"....
