Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

More than a quarter of a million people in this country are born with communication impairments (e.g. resulting from cerebral palsy), or acquire communication impairments at any age through injury, illness, stroke or other neurological conditions.

Ace Centre support those individuals with the most severe and complex communication disabilities – people who are unable to speak or write due to physical impairment, language disorder or learning difficulty.

They work to overcome the challenges they face by promoting and supporting the effective uses of Assistive Technology (AT), particularly Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), in order to develop means of verbal and written communication that is as quick, simple and effective as possible. If you are familiar with Professor Stephen Hawking, you will have an idea of the type of technology they work with.

The right technology can help them achieve equality and independence, but it is essential that they know it exists, what is available and how to use it.
