Story
At the end of last year, we said our goodbyes to our dear Grandad, Bill Clements. An incredible man whom unfortunately vascular dementia had latched itself onto. Grandad valiantly battled with the disease for 2 and a half years.
Unfortunately, my family and I are among the many to have experienced the suffering, heartache and distress caused by dementia.
Dementia in all it's forms doesn't discriminate and is an unbelievably cruel disease. The suffering which it causes both the person and their loved ones is inhumane. No family should have to struggle with this soul destroying disease and watch their loved ones become helpless and empty.
The Alzheimer's Society is a charity which is extremely close to home and important to me . The work that they carry out, the support which they offer families affected by dementia and the research they conduct is vital to the dementia community and finding a cure, but they can't do any of this without funding! Therefore, together with my closest friend, I'm taking part in a 56km trek along the South Coast of England from Eastbourne to Hove on 31st August.
This is my way of ensuring that Grandad's suffering is not in vain and to help this incredible charity get that little bit closer to finding a cure and preventing another person and family from having to suffer though the effects of dementia.
Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever. Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.
