Story
Thank you, thank you, thank you to you all. After some late 'injury' doubts, I honestly thought I may not even start. But that's not what dad would have done ... I started steadily to make sure I finished, and am delighted that your collective inspiration got me across the finish line in 2hrs 26mins.
It's not too late for pledges and with off-line to be tooted up you've all done me proud :-). So ... I ran the Bristol Half Marathon on Sunday September 5th as a way to raise some money to help those afflicted by dementia. My dad died from cancer ,but was tormented by Alzheimer's. Dad was fit and active to the last, devoting himself to community work around the Polish community in Derby. Although the cancer that took him ravaged his body, it was most painful to see that he could no longer continue those tasks that gave his life meaning.
Although I love any game or sport with a purpose, I hate running, going to the gym or even practising or training. After all sport is for fun, not to pound the socks off or humiliate an opponent, pumping iron in the gym is just plain dull, and running on a treadmill - what's that all about !?
Contact me to make a personal pledge, or use this website - they’ll take the cash straight away and send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. The site may seem a bit of a swizz, because I haven't done the event yet, but it does limit the chasing around needed to collect donations.
Many thanks to you all but more than that my thanks to dad for his example and inspiration.
Peter
