Just to give you an update, I am now taking part in the Big Fun Run Edinburgh on the 28th July, rather than the Edinburgh Marathon festival on the 25th May. Sorry for the confusion Britannie x

Thanks for taking the time to visit Zachary's page:)

My name is britannie (15) and i am zachs (2) sister and I really want to raise money for the Sheffield Children Charity as the hospital has helped Zach so much.

Zach's Background

Zach started life as the centre of everyones world as he was the first son, grandson and nephew in the family. My mum started noticing things that a healthy develpoing baby shouldnt do, he wouldnt interact and then the little speech he had he started to loose. After his first birthday he still wasnt walking then at 18 months he took his first steps, we were all so excited we didnt even care about his age! I should of said at the beggining that he had a big head (an actual medical thing) We paid to see a priviate consultant, who arranged a CT scan on his head as he suspected Hydrocephalus. Me my nanna and grandad all waited to hear the news however it was not what we all expected... he had a brain tumour as well as hydrocephalus. We suspect that he has an intellectual disability as a result of is hydrocephalus.

The Fight

My mum had a water birth with zach, however the midwife was not particularly switched on and aware of the progression of the labour, for example she kept putting the water at the wrong temperature and didn't know how to work the lights and heating in the room, she also wasn't telling my mum what to do etc. Despite my mum telling her that  his head was out, she carried on trying to work the lights. Zach then shot out and my mum was in so much pain she was unaware of this and zachs ise to the surface was delayed. After researching water births thoroughly, my mum new that the baby should not be snatched from the water as this can stimulate them to take a breath but the midwife did exactly that as she was shocked he had even come out. At 8 weeks old, his head circumference shot up the 97th centile from the 50th, my mum knew this wasn't right and despite telling professionals about her concerns, no one took her seriously. Then 15 months on he saw a private consulatant and that when we found out he had a brain tumour too. We are currently building up a case against chesterfield hospital for not picking his medical conditions up.

Why?

You may all be wondering whhy i want to raise money, well it is simple really, i just want to give a something back to the neuroscience ward where zach spends time at having had numerous operations. i know i only want to raise £100 but i am wanting to make this fundraising a year long project and at first dont want to set my targets too high as i am just 15.

Family

The Isherwood family is all supporting zach through his hard times and putting on a brave face for both me and zach. i wouldnt change zach for the world even though he was in hospital on my birthday bless him! My family is the best i know it sounds cliche but i think im the only person in the world thats right!

Thankyou for taking time to read this, i really appreciate your support :)
