The Downside Fisher Youth Club supports disadvantaged children and young people from Bermondsey and its neighbouring areas, enabling them to fulfil their social and economic potential as capable, confident young adults through a structured programme of educational, sporting and artistic activities.

Story

The Downside Settlement was founded in 1908 by Father Stephen Rawlinson, a monk of Downside, and today its mission remains the same: to provide a social, arts and sporting environment for young people in Bermondsey. Bermondsey is situated in an area where childhood poverty is rated at higher than 50%.

Through the generosity of donors excellent facilities have been established, and an ambitious programme of re-development is taking place.

Since the club’s inception Downside monks and their friends have been great supporters of its cause and integral to the work it does. Now is the time for the Downside community to redouble its commitment to the club, which is why I am running the London Marathon.

I've never done anything like this before so it is going to be a huge personal challenge. The club is in desperate need of funds and so I am aiming to raise £2k for them which is hugely ambitious. If you can spare anything at all then please do. Leave your name on the donation page and you'll certainly be prayed for as I sweat my way across London on the 26th April 2015!
