Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Some of you visitng will know me and some of you won't, but that doesn't matter- this is about trying to help a relatively unknown charity who work so hard to support people with a relatively unknown disease- CMT, or Charcot Marie Tooth Disease.
It's a disease that causes muscle deterioration, most commonly in the legs or arms but it can affect the whole body. This means those with the disease can have trouble walking, writing or even breathing.
This disease is not confined to old age, it can onset in young children and teenagers alike. This is how I know about CMT, not because I have it, but because my best friend does.
There is no cure for CMT, but this has never stopped her living life to the full- always with a smile on her face. I think I have probably seen her at some of her best and worst moments, but she always carries on. However corny it sounds, she is an inspiration to me and everyone around her.
It is through knowing her that I have also found out about the great work CMT UK do, helping to support people around the country. They provide young people weekends, giving young people with CMT a chance to come together and take part in some great activities with added support and help. They also help to fund research into a cure, educate and offer support and assistance to those with the disease. But all of this costs money that they don't have.
That's why I am trying to do my bit. I am the House Captain of Brontë House at Queen Mary's High School, an all girls school in Walsall, West Midlands. As a school, we support 3 charities a year, 2 are decided upon by staff and the third is chosen by the students. Each of the 3 houses puts forward a charity- explaining why the school should support it and then it is put to a vote. This year, me and my friend campaigned for CMT UK to become the house charity and to our delight it was chosen!
So far this year we have held cake sales, a challenge competition, spare change collections, an international food sale and our own version of 'take me out'. All raising money for this excellent cause.
As we are Brontë house, we do have a lovely mascot of a giant, red, 'brontesaurus' (big fluffy dinosaur outfit). So I set myself a challenge, to try and raise as much money as possible for CMT UK, I'm going to walk up Mt. Snowdon in Wales...wearing the brontesaurus outfit!!!
The date is set- April 7th and there will be a video diary accompanying my experience. Should you be in North Wales on the 7th of April, watch out for the big red dinosaur!
My best friend has been through so much, I love her and she is my reason for doing this. This is my way of trying to help support her and all the amazing people that live life to the full with a smile on their faces despite the hardships they may go through managing CMT.
All I can ask is that you sponsor a great cause. However big or small, anything helps. Please read below on ways to donate online or contact daisthehale@googlemail.com for any extra information or if you'd prefer to donate in person/by post.
Many Thanks and love,
Daisy :) x
