Great North Run 2004 · 26 September 2004 ·

Centrepoint is the UK’s leading youth homeless charity. Together with our partners, we support over 16,000 16-25 year olds into a home and a job every year. Our award-winning helpline provides support to vulnerable young people across the country. We campaign to end youth homelessness by 2037.

Story

******************NEWS FLASH**********************

On the 26th of September 2004, John and Ed Crockett completed the Great North Run. Despite pulling a muscle in his foot and twisting his ankle during the race, Ed left John in a cloud of dust (a bit unecessary!) around the 6 mile mark and went on to win by 8 minutes and 49 seconds. After receiving all the last votes in we are now in a position to answer the most important question - WHO WON THE WINE!

This means the official winner is Kay Crockett, aka Rabbit, Grandmother of the twins. Incredibly, she is also the lady featured in the picture on the left. At 94, the wiley old fox is still the best judge on the block. However, due to her overwhelming generosity she has asked that we pass the wine onto the four that came closest. Therefore, Adam Harmand, John Payne, Jonathon Morgan and Jenny Crisp each win themselves three bottles of the red stuff (that's worth £30 each)! If one of these people is you then please either email me back or ring me on 07816 163630 to arrange delivery!

We would both like to say a massive thank you to everyone who has supported us. Some have been kind enough (or thirsty) to have sponsored us, but we have also been overwhelmed by the many messages of encouragement and support that we have recieved from so many people.

Without this support we would never have raised the amazing amount of money we did. £1300 will make a huge difference to the homeless young people that Centrepoint works with. We also wouldn't have managed to carry on and both complete the race in the times that we did. So we can now blame you all for the way we feel now!

Many thanks particularly to the donors of the prize (it made all the difference) and to Mum and Dad for spreading the word around the whole of Wales. Thanks also to all those in our offices who had a punt, and to all our friends who were told that they HAD to donate - and still managed to amaze us with their generosity! You can all rest safe in the knowledge that our fundraising is over, and we will not pester you all for another penny. Well, watch this space... John and Ed 24 years ago it started with squabbling over toys and teddies, but now it has got serious - the Great Twin Run! 13 miles of hills and Newcastle brown rain. Who wins, you decide! Guess right and you can win a case of Red Wine worth £120*! All you have to do is predict which twin will win and by how much (to the nearest second). For every donation over ten pounds (please gift aid it if you can!) you get one prediction. When you donate you will be asked to give an email address. Please make sure it is accurate, as we will use this to contact you if you win. Please type your predictions in the MESSAGE. Those that missed this, I have put their predictions at the bottom of this page. All the money raised will be going to Centrepoint, the national youth homeless charity that helps disadvantaged young people get back on their feet when they have no where else to turn. Centrepoint is not just a bed for the night. They give young people the opportunity to turn their life around, opportunities that most of us take for granted. The best way to give is through this site as it is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Centrepoint will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax (get your grubby mitts off it Gordon) will be added to your gift at no cost to you. Alternatively, send a cheque to: Centrepoint, Neil House, 7 Whitechapel Road, London E1 1DU marked for John and Ed's Great North Run with your prediction, and a note to say you would like to gift aid it, enclosed. Many thanks for your support. PREDICTIONS AND DONATIONS NOT ON THE PAGE (if anybody guesses the same time, the second time will have an added second!)
