Story
Multiples of Three
This year on the 3rd of October I'll run the 42 km of the London Marathon for the first time. It's not the mass event but the virtual race from times of COVID, where you can run anywhere on the same day as the event and if it is 42 km or more it still counts. I have run 6 marathons before and various other sport events including an Iron Man. But this one is special. Well, they were all special, but this one is 3 times special to me:
Firstly, I'm running for a special cause: autism research. I chose this cause and the Autism Research Trust charity inspired by my friend and work colleague Imad Nabli. He has an autistic boy as a son and inspired by his son, Imad gives and hosts fascinating talks at our company about neurodiversity at the work place. Autism is something that we just need to know a lot more about - from development, diagnostics and beyond - and to get there it's clear that we need really serious research. Have a look at https://www.autismresearchtrust.org/ if you want to know more about the charity. This page is of course about that cause so please donate to the charity here if you can.
Secondly, I'm also running in memory of someone special to me and my family. Those who had dogs will relate. After 12 years with our dog Uma and her unique sweetness, she passed away only few weeks ago. But she will be with me in the marathon. She will always be with me.
Thirdly, this will be my first really serious sport challenge since the Iron Man 6 years ago. Running has been something special in our family of 3 here in London: Fernanda, Amalia and me. 6-year old Amalia knows that running was even how mom and dad first met. So it was about time that I went again for the most glamorous distance of running!
There you go. My 3 special reasons. It is a bit inconvenient for my "Multiples of Three" short story here that love is not a 3-letter word. And it has an even number of letters, not an odd number. But love is odd for sure. For what other reason would someone willingly run 42K?
