Event: John & Amy Cycle To Bushmills Distillery
We help you raise money and awareness to support the cause you care about most.

Story

We are about to embark on a sponsored cycle event to raise funds for the continued research into the cause of Motor Neurone Disease (MND). You may be aware of a recent announcement that Fernando Ricksen (Ex Glasgow Rangers footballer has recently developed the disease and also affected the late Jimmy Johnstone (Ex Glasgow Celtic footballer), so it could affect anyone at anytime. We want to raise money for the Euan MacDonald Centre within Edinburgh University.  (http://www.euanmacdonaldcentre.com)

This terminal condition is currently affecting a personal friend of John's and this event came about from a sense of hopelessness in helping those close to him and a need to do something positive. His friend always sings the praises of the fine quality of Bushmills Irish Whiskey and said it is his favourite tipple, so an idea was formed to cycle from Strathclyde Park (Lanarkshire) to Bushmills Distillery (Northern Ireland) a journey of 165 miles, over a 3 day period. John will be joined in his journey by his fellow cyclist Amy who has previously helped in raising money for the Ewan MacDonald Centre.

Information about the charity:
In 2003 Euan MacDonald was diagnosed with motor neurone disease (MND), a debilitating disease that generally strikes at random in middle age. It leads to muscle weakness and ultimately paralysis, and is usually fatal within a few years.

Euan and his father made a far-sighted and substantial donation that led to the establishment of the Euan MacDonald Centre for Motor Neurone Disease Research at the University of Edinburgh. The mission of the Centre is to make a positive difference to the lives of patients with MND through laboratory and clinical research.

Your donation will directly help the Centre’s researchers better understand the causes of this debilitating condition and ultimately, help them slow down, stop or even reverse this devastating disease.
