Donoghue Theresa is raising money for Pied Piper Appeal

Bye Bye Beardy · 17 November 2020

The Pied Piper Appeal raises money to make a difference to sick and disabled children in Gloucestershire by funding the Children's Centre at GRH, supporting SEND schools, sending children and their families on Wish Holidays and improving experiences with mental health facilities.

Story

My husband Kevin has been a bearded man for 26 years! Our children aged 23 and 21 have never seen their Da’s clean shaven face! Kevin has agreed to shave off his beard to help raise funds for Jasmine’s Journey Boxes Project, which is facilitated by the Pied Piper Appeal, but only if we can raise £300!

Jasmine’s Journey Boxes are gifted to children who visit our paediatric ward when they are experiencing  difficulties with their mental well-being. The boxes include items like toiletries, funky socks, puzzle books, teddies and more. Jasmine also takes the time write a thoughtful, supportive and personalised message in a card and one is placed in every box. Me and the team I work in are seeing more and more young people who need mental health support, and these boxes are a wonderful gift for children who are struggling. But now, especially in this time of Covid crisis, we need help in keeping up with demand so we can supply as many Journey Boxes as possible. This is where we need your help!

The Pied Piper Appeal was founded in 1992 by local hairdresser Peter Hickman and £4 million was pledged to build a new Children's Centre at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital. The money was quickly raised with the centre opening in 2004. Since then, Pied Piper have continued to fund the Children's Centre along with improving experiences with mental health facilities, sending children and their families on Wish Holidays and supporting SEND schools, pledging £500,000 to the Chamwell Centre Project which started building work in February 2019.
