Story
In April of 2010 after 4 years of experience in China, we opened the first Butterfly Home in Changsha, Hunan, and welcomed our first 3 children Eve, Isobel and Angel.
Children's palliative care and knowledge was close to non-existent in China and we had learned that the only way to reach children with life-limiting conditions was to open a Home in an orphanage.
From this little Home, we have cared for over 200 children, learned so much and achieved a reputation for high standards of care putting us in a leading position to grow children's palliative care in China at a national level, reaching many more children and their families.
On the 10th anniversary of these humble beginnings, we want to celebrate all of the Butterfly children, past and present. We remember over 100 children who found their 'wings' too soon, but who died surrounded by love and care; we celebrate all the children who miraculously went onto recover and live full lives in the arms of their forever families; we smile when we think about the children who are now in other care settings appropriate to their needs, and; we cherish the children in our Home right now.
We are determined as we pursue our vision that every child affected by life limiting conditions and their family are loved and supported. So while we continue to providing loving care in our Home, we have also stepped into much wider possibilities in order to reach many many more families and their children with life-limiting conditions. We will achieve this through building on our partnerships with hospitals and community services; continuing to provide education, training and awareness; and by working at a government-level to effect policy changes that drive the importance and value of children's palliative care.
Please help us to reach many more children and their families, keeping them together and giving them the right care and support in their most difficult days.
