Our aim is to advance the education of the public in Scottish culture and traditions by the promotion of traditional music, song and dance through learning and participation in a way that fosters enjoyment, enthusiasm and a sense of community. We provide tuition for both adults and young people.

Story

What is SC&T Youth firstly?

SC&T Youth is a branch of Scottish Culture & Traditions (SC&T), dedicated to engaging young people aged 6 to 26 in Scottish traditional music and culture. It offers free tailored events and activities, aiming to preserve and promote Scottish traditions in the North East of Scotland.

What is the challenge?

The "100 miles in March for SC&T Youth" challenge is a fundraising challenge where participants are encouraged to walk, jog, run, swim, or cycle a total of 100 miles throughout the month of March. Individuals can choose to complete the challenge on their own or team up with family and friends to share the 100-mile goal. The aim of the challenge is to promote physical activity while raising funds to support the SC&T Youth programme, which provides free and accessible activities for young people in Scottish traditional music.

When is it happening?

The "100 miles in March for SC&T Youth" challenge is scheduled to take place from March 1st, to March 31st 2024. Participants will have the entire month to complete the challenge by walking, jogging, running, swimming, or cycling a total of 100 miles individually or as part of a team.

Why are you doing it?

Our challenge is organised with the aim of raising funds to support the SC&T Youth programme. As a not-for-profit charity organisation, SC&T is committed to providing free and accessible activities for young people. We specifically target regeneration areas of Aberdeen to reach young people who may not have these opportunities elsewhere. As the programme continues to grow, there is a need for additional funds to ensure that these activities remain free and accessible to all young people and their families.

By organising this fundraiser, SC&T aims to minimise barriers for young people and ensure that they have the opportunity to participate in enriching activities without financial constraints. The funds raised through the challenge will contribute to sustaining and expanding the SC&T Youth programme, ultimately benefiting the youth in the community by providing them with opportunities for growth, personal development, and engagement in positive activities.

"My child wouldn't be able to participate in activities like this if it wasn't for SC&T Youth as we simply wouldn't be able to afford it". SC&T Youth parent.

"Seeing the children involved engage so enthusiastically with Scottish traditional music is absolutely fantastic to see. Passing on our musical traditions is a vital part of the work we do and it's great to see it's in safe hands with SC&T Youth at the helm in the North East of Scotland". SC&T Youth tutor.

"Being part of SC&T Youth is like being part of a big musical family! It makes me so happy". SC&T Youth participant.
