Story
Nearly two years ago, after my sight deteriorated suddenly, I set myself a challenge: to walk 10 million steps — roughly 4,000 miles, the equivalent of walking from Northampton to Cuba.
Today, that challenge is complete.
What began as a response to shock and uncertainty became something much bigger. With the support of NAB Sight Support for Northamptonshire, particularly the guidance of their Eye Clinic Liaison Officer and Community Support team, I refused to retreat from life. Instead, I stepped forward — one step at a time.
Over the course of this journey:
I walked more than 4,000 miles.
I invited hundreds of people to join me.
I turned isolation into community.
I proved — to myself and to others — that independence does not disappear with sight.
This was never just about steps.
It was about resilience.
It was about visibility.
It was about hope.
Now that the challenge is complete, I am continuing to raise funds for NAB for a further six months. The work they do is life-changing for people adjusting to sight loss — offering practical support, emotional guidance, and the reassurance that no one has to face this alone.
If this journey has shown anything, it is that with the right support, sight loss does not define your limits.
If you would like to donate, sponsor, or support NAB’s work through charitable trusts or organisational giving, your contribution will directly help others take their own first steps forward.
Thank you for walking alongside me.
