Its been an incredible journey. Volunteers Foundation(VF) was created almost 10 years ago with the aim of improving the lives of children in Kibera (Nairobi) through providing quality education. We initially started with supporting St. Monica Nursery, but then moved on to continue to help our nursery children through primary and secondary education by connecting with a set of independent schools with similar values and principles.

Our first major milestone, however, was in 2016 when we were able to launch our own Volunteers Foundation Academy, a primary school which allows us to deliver quality education based on our own ethos. This year, we were able to move VF Academy into our own school building which was a key step towards self-sustainability, a goal that wed like to achieve by 2025. The global pandemic has put a temporary hold on our efforts as we are currently solely focused on providing food and some level of remote learning support to our children who cannot attend school. All schools might have to stay closed until January 2021.

As we are unable to celebrate our achievements in person with you, we have organised a virtual event on Saturday, 14 November to get together and reflect on what we have achieved so far and where we are heading. We are planning four one-hour online sessions, each focused on a specific key area of charity work: the importance of adaptability, the impact of education on Human Capital, the need for sustainability, and the importance of not creating dependencies.
