Story
Home-Start is here to listen and support a family in a circumstance that impacts them personally - we are that virtual hug when you need it the most.
Families struggling with postnatal depression, isolation, physical health problems, bereavement and many other issues receive the support of a volunteer who will spend around two hours a week in a family's home supporting them in the ways that they need.
Yes, families can be referred to Home-Start or, if you feel that you need support you can contact us and we will help wherever we can, even arrange for a volunteer to visit you at home to better understand your needs.
Home-Start was created in 1973, founded by Margaret Harrison who believed that supporting a family was best done in the home where it can be shaped to the needs of the family. While this is the core at the heart of our charity, we have created new ways of helping parents and their children to meet the changing needs of families such as local 'Stay & Play' to encourage interaction and build new friendships.
