Story
Domestic abuse is heinous and abhorrent. It damages and destroys lives. Domestic Abuse, in its many forms, disproportionality affects women and girls. These acts are wholly intolerable, are a fundamental abuse of the victims’ human rights and represent serious crimes.
Domestic abuse is still under-reported and is not consistently identified or recognised. Given the dire impact on victims and their children, both in the short and longer term, a lot more still needs to be done to empower victims, survivors, witnesses and ‘by-standers’ including family members, neighbours, friends, employers and co-workers to come forward, report the abuse and seek or provide support.
The human cost and suffering caused by domestic abuse is immense and all consuming. Victims, survivors and their children suffer long-term negative effects of psychological, physical, sexual, emotional and financial abuse, which present in many different ways.
Hillingdon Domestic Abuse Advocacy Service (HDAAS) is a team of highly dedicated, committed, compassionate individuals who provide excellent help, support and intervention for victims of domestic abuse, working with, advocating for and empowering victims towards a safer, healthier, more positive future for themselves and their children.
The HDAAS team are taking part in the 13 Bridges Charity Walk to raise awareness of domestic abuse as part of White Ribbon Day (25th November) and the 16 days of activism to eradicate violence against women and girls.
HDAAS are raising money for the Hillingdon Women’s Centre who provide a unique and vital safe haven and service for women in Hillingdon.
