Glasgow SE Foodbank provides emergency food and other support to local people in their hardest moments. We work with our partners to get people the right help, so they're less likely to need the foodbank again. We work together with Trussell and their foodbank network to end the need for foodbanks.

Story

Glasgow SE Foodbank is a community food and advice hub serving Govanhill and the south east of Glasgow - an area facing some of the highest levels of child poverty and deprivation in the country, with around 75% of children in Govanhill growing up in poverty.

For almost 15 years, we have provided emergency food alongside practical support, including free legal advice, financial support and digital inclusion services, helping families through crisis with compassion and dignity.

Supporting Glasgow SE Foodbank means helping local people access urgent support, while strengthening a trusted community resource at the heart of some of Scotland’s most disadvantaged communities.

In testament to our long history on the frontline of the fight against food insecurity and poverty in Glasgow, our former manager Audrey Flannagan, who managed the food bank from its founding in 2011 until her retirement two years ago, has just been awarded a BEM in the King's Birthday Honours list in recognition of her dedicated work in the community.

Reflecting on the award on 16 June, Audrey said:

“I am deeply honoured and humbled to receive this award. While I accept this recognition for my hard work, I see this as recognition of the many volunteers, staff and supporters who made that work possible and stood alongside me throughout – many of them still doing so today, after almost a decade and half.

"For fifteen years, I have had the privilege of witnessing the kindness and generosity of local people, and together we have supported our community through some incredibly challenging times, including austerity, the pandemic and the cost-of-living crisis.

"No one person runs a food bank. This award belongs just as much to the volunteers, trustees, staff and supporters whose commitment and compassion have made this work possible. I am immensely proud of what we have achieved together, and I hope this recognition shines a light on the importance of small charities and the difference that ordinary people can make when they come together to help others."

Please help us welcome 15 new supporters through this appeal by signing up for a monthly direct debit of as much or as little as you can afford.

Thank you.
