Story

1 Dog at a time Rescue UK and our supporters have been asked if we can help in an urgent Spay, Neuter and Return Project in a underprivileged rural village Sotrile in Romania. Sotrile lies, 68 miles north of Bucharest and the area has been identified as High Need as the dogs there are in desperate need of help.

Many of the dogs in Sotrile are living on the streets, fighting for any scraps of food that might be available. Most are not spayed or neutered and are constantly breeding.

The animals here are treated extremely poorly due to the very harsh living conditions of the residents, the dogs are very scared so even catching them will be highly challenging. Special help from some vets from Bucharest to catch all will be required.

The situation there has produced lots of defenceless pups being dumped because the residents cannot get anywhere near the adults. These pups often die horrific deaths without mom around to try to feed them and keep them safe.

The Mayor of the village (otrile) has been asked for financial help for this project but he has refused because most of the residents live on social welfare and he doesn't have any budget to help with projects for dogs such as this.

1 DAATRUK will be working alongside 2 other renowned and excellent charities:

Arca lui Norocel Romania who will be organising the project and vets to carry out the procedures & World Animal Veterinary Emissaries (WAVE) Germany who are also working tirelessly to help the dogs in Romania and together we can try to help ease the pain and the suffering of these innocent dogs.

As Lulia from Arca lui Norocel explained:

Our main problem is that we don't have enough sponsors to cover the costs for spaying all those dogs. The need is so great out there and we can't wait any longer because we can't see all these animals in pain. Any support is greatly appreciated! Meanwhile we do our best to involve local authorities to take responsibility of solving this problem in a humane way.

You can rest assured all sponsors that we will deal with their funds in the most transparent way; they will get pictures with every spayed animal, bills, and they can request any information they want at any time; we will openly provide anything.

The need for a Spay Neuter and Return Policy in Romania is evident for all to see and its quite astonishing when we look at some of the statistics:

Each female and her offspring, according to Dogs on Death Row, PETA and HSUS, can produce in 6 years up to 67,000 puppies.

Granted, even if born, many of these puppies would die of Parvo, Distemper and any other diseases or infections, be hit by cars and receive other injuries.

One spay of one female dog can prevent the suffering of thousands. This is why Spay, Neuter and Return Procedures are so important To decrease suffering and stop the uncontrolled breeding of unwanted animals that are on the streets.

At 1 DAATRUK we are totally committed to the dogs of Romania in a number of different areas. Spay, Neuter and Return is just 1 area where we are constantly looking to help these wonderful dogs. But as always we can only do so much without your continued support. So please help us to help them wherever you can and once again we thank you from the bottoms of our hearts for making this help become a reality.
