James Weir aims to walk the 540 mile Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route in late 2023 to raise funds for the 1st Lochwinnoch Boys' Brigade.
Like all charities and volunteer organizations, the 1st Lochwinnoch Boys' Brigade company suffered financially during the Covid-19 pandemic, and even more so as a result of the closure of the Parish Church. As a member of the 1st Lochwinnoch BB for over 18 years, James Weir feels a responsibility to assist with this issue. Hence, he aims to complete a fundraising expedition along an ancient Christian pilgrimage route at the end of 2023.
The Camino de Santiago is a pilgrimage route dating to the 9th century, that stretches across the north of Spain, from the small village of St Jean Pied du Port to the city of Santiago de Compostela, spanning approximately 540 miles. Walking this sacred path is not only an opportunity to raise funds for Lochwinnoch's BB company but also a personal quest for self-discovery and reflection during a pivotal period of his life.
Every contribution, no matter the size, will directly impact the company and support the growth and empowerment of our communities' boys and young men. The funds raised from this trek would be used to assist in the annual running of the company, weekly space hire, purchasing new sports equipment, and contributing to the costs of twice-yearly weekend camps.
